Nation: We are one of the last
tribes in Alberta, even Canada,
to face the cultural upheaval
faced by Aboriginal people in
the last century.
We were one of the last tribes in Alberta, even Canada, to face the cultural upheaval faced by Aboriginal people in the last century. Our Elders lived in teepees and wickiups. They survived by using their traditional skills to gather, hunt, and trap. Before development encroached in the late sixties, life was as it always had been.
Today, we face pressures unknown to previous generations: unparalleled development on our traditional lands and integration into the modern world. We are meeting that challenge with programs and services to meet our community needs. Today, Aseniwuche Winewak Nation has a provincial reputation for leadership, professionalism and achieving results. We are doing our part: finding practical solutions, forming partnerships and being accountable. We want to work together with government, industry, other land users, and other communities towards a sustainable future.
